There are many ways that my husband and I are a wonderful and complementary couple…As great a team as we are in parenting, I’m not sure how we’d do at working together, let alone running a company together. That’s why I’m so impressed by couples who do that and do it well.

Here are three New Mexican couples running, and growing, local businesses.
 

Drs. Lee and Kelly Caperton, co-owners, Caperton Fertility Institute. The Capertons now have two locations, including one that opened in El Paso, Texas, recently. As the only College of American Pathologists-accredited practice in New Mexico with a board-certified fertility specialist, they hope to grow to five locations within as many years and are hiring locally now.

Jim and Jennifer Day, co-owners, Maize. This new Southwestern restaurant in downtown Santa Fe is owned under their umbrella company, New Mexico Fine Dining. Maize is the couple’s second restaurant after Santa Fe’s Bouche, a French bistro. A third restaurant that was home to Galisteo Bistro will be reopened as Trattoria a Mano this month. By the end of 2018, the couple plans to reopen Bobcat Bite on Old Las Vegas Highway, a popular hamburger spot since 1953 that closed in 2015. And, together they own 50 Aaron’s furniture franchises in 10 states, three car dealerships in Texas and a cattle ranch in Vaughn, New Mexico, which will supply grass-fed beef to Bobcat Bite.

Jessica and Seth Beecher, co-owners, RE/MAX Select. The residential real estate firm — the state’s eighth-largest, is expanding its Albuquerque foothold and looking to increase its workforce and grow its revenue by up to $67 million. The Beechers just expanded in Nob Hill and re looking for more real estate in 2018, they say. They’re also looking for about 40-50 additional brokers.
