One of the Most Exciting Clinical Advances

Caperton Fertility’s Embryologists use the most sophisticated form of embryo vitrification “Flash Freezing” techniques in assisted reproduction to help you conceive.

Egg and embryo freezing have made significant leaps in success rates over the last 5-10 years. Technological advancements have dramatically increased the survival rate of frozen embryos and frozen eggs. One of the most significant advances in egg freezing or cryopreservation technology is a freezing technique known as “Vitrification” or flash freezing. Success rates in egg freezing had been virtually zero until the development of the embryo vitrification process several years ago. Traditional freezing techniques used a slow-freeze method that caused ice crystals to form in the egg and damage it, rendering it unviable.

With the development of vitrification, egg freezing has now become a viable option for fertility preservation. The vitrification and warming processes are extremely sophisticated and technologically challenging procedures that are best performed in state-of-the-art facilities by staff with extensive knowledge and experience with the current techniques. Caperton Fertility Institute has some of the country’s most experienced embryology staff with respect to vitrification techniques, and the area’s largest and most experienced embryology team to oversee the delicate processes related to embryo and egg vitrification. We use the most sophisticated form of vitrification available in the world and have custom tailored our new laboratory to employ these latest techniques. As a result, we have seen dramatic improvements in pregnancy rates since opening our new facility in 2016.

The advent of embryo vitrification has also led to improvements in the freeze/thaw survival rates of embryos. Where these success rates were 70-80% with previous cryopreservation methods, Vitrification has pushed these rates close to 100% in the best labs. What a difference a decade makes!
