Dr. Kelly Caperton, MD FACOG

Dr. Kelly Caperton is the Founder and President of Caperton Fertility Institute, partnering to run the practice with her husband, Dr. Lee Caperton. Kelly has been practicing general obstetrics and gynecology for over 20 years; she completed her undergraduate training at Boise State University in 1993 and received her medical degree in 1997 from the University of Washington where she first discovered her passion for obstetrics and gynecological surgery. After completing her internship and residency in OBGYN at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Dr. Caperton practiced general obstetrics and gynecology both in her own practice and in a large group practice before relocating to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2007.


Dr. Caperton is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of OBGYN. Patient feedback on Vitals.com is outstanding.


As Founder and President of Caperton Fertility Institute, Dr. Kelly Caperton oversees the day-to-day operations of the practice in addition to her ongoing role as attending physician. She’s most proud of her team of professionals at Caperton, many of whom have experienced fertility treatment themselves. That intimate knowledge and understanding of each patient’s unique situation contributes to the compassion and empathy for everyone who comes through the door.



Dr. Kelly Caperton is the mother of two beautiful girls and two handsome boys. She enjoys photography, fly fishing, skiing, running, and taekwondo in addition to pursuing her passion for helping families experience the joy of parenthood.

Dr. Lee Caperton is the only Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Fertility Specialist practicing and living in the State of New Mexico. He is also Board Certified as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist. Board Certification is a rigorous process that requires many years of training, a comprehensive and novel research career, and a series of intense and rigorous tests, both written and oral. No candidate becomes Board Certified in Fertility without completing these tasks and being accepted into this prestigious group of clinicians. When searching for a fertility doctor, these credentials and experience carry significant weight. As the Founder, CEO and Medical Director of Caperton Fertility Institute, Dr. Lee Caperton focuses on innovation and technical advancement of the practice, and has pioneered the implementation of techniques in many areas including genetic screening of embryos (PGS/PGD), single embryo transfer (SET), and laser-assisted reproductive techniques (assisted hatching, CGH).


Additionally, Dr. Lee Caperton has continued research interests and expertise in assisted reproduction, fertility, genetics, and transgenic technology. He has been involved in research projects involving the study of polycystic ovaries, endometriosis and In Vitro Fertilization. He was a co-investigator in the Women’s Health Initiative, the largest study ever completed on menopause and hormone therapy. Dr. Lee Caperton is also an expert in the treatment of Fertility and Reproductive Endocrine disorders from both a non-invasive and surgical perspective.

Dr. Lee Caperton is the only Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Fertility Specialist practicing and living in the State of New Mexico.


He has a special interest and expertise in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, both of which are minimally invasive types of surgical procedures that allow patients to leave the hospital the same day. He also has one of the safest track records of fertility doctors in the region for completing these procedures without significant risks to patients.


Dr. Caperton’s expertise includes egg donation, in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), assisted hatching, embryo donation, embryo freezing, egg freezing, vitrification, laser reproductive techniques, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), preimplantation genetic screening (PGS), fertility, fertility success rates, gestational carrier cycles, surrogacy, LGBT care, donor oocytes, and laboratory design.

Experience


Dr. Lee Caperton completed his subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility at the University of Texas and also remained on Staff at the University of Texas as a teacher and researcher until moving with his wife and children to New Mexico. He spent his undergraduate years at Vanderbilt University and ultimately at the University of Colorado where he received his degree in Chemical Engineering. He focused on bio-engineering systems, molecular biology, biotechnology, and reverse osmosis techniques. His love for and expertise in bioengineering led him to pursue a doctorate in clinical medicine.


In his Residency, Fellowship, and tenure as a Faculty member at the University of Texas, he dedicated his research efforts to molecular mechanisms. Dr. Caperton developed, with a team of world-class biologists, the area’s primate embryology basic science facility.


One of a small group of clinicians published in the Proclamations of the National Academy of Sciences, Dr. Caperton extensively evaluated the effects of assisted reproduction on molecular genetic mechanisms, publishing one of the first articles on epigenetic alterations in primate models using assisted reproduction.


Dr. Caperton spent years heading his laboratory that performed all forms of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms and now owns a cutting edge technology company focusing on human interaction, communication, and the evolution of social networking.


Awards & Affiliations


Dr. Lee Caperton has been the recipient of multiple awards in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility. Most notably, he received the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society AAOGF Award in 2003 and 2004 for work focusing on the molecular genetics of assisted reproduction. This award is considered one of the most prized awards in this country for physicians practicing Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology.


Dr. Caperton was recently awarded the Distinguished Doctor Designation© from The Expert Network, which is conferred only upon the top 3% of doctors in the nation. Other distinctions include:

Dr. Lee Caperton is the proud father of four children. His wife, Dr. Kelly Caperton is a Board-Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist and his partner at Caperton Fertility Institute, acting as fellow Founder and President.

Dr. Marika Raff, born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, has built a remarkable career dedicated to helping individuals and couples achieve their dreams of parenthood. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where her passion for science and medicine took root. Dr. Raff continued her education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, earning her medical degree before specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology during her residency at Rush University in Chicago, IL.

Her commitment to reproductive medicine led her to complete a prestigious fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. With a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience, Dr. Raff has become a trusted expert in fertility care.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Raff is an avid equestrian and proud owner of three horses, a testament to her dedication and passion in all aspects of her life. She is deeply committed to providing compassionate and personalized care to infertile couples, individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring that everyone has access to the support and treatments they need to build their families.
