Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
At Caperton Fertility Institute, intracytoplasmic sperm injection is used almost universally in IVF treatments.
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an assisted fertilization technique that allows an embryologist to take a single sperm and inject it into each mature egg (oocyte) by use of a sophisticated microscope and manipulation apparatus. Traditional fertilization techniques where the egg is placed in a petri dish with sperm rely on normally functioning sperm and egg, which is not always the case – especially with couples experiencing conception problems.
The technique eliminates much of the chance involved in natural fertilization and achieves extremely high fertilization rates. Because we feel that this gives our patients the best chance of conception, Caperton Fertility performs ICSI for virtually all of our IVF procedures.
